What I Wore on Thursday, July 28, 2016

by mary July 29, 2016

On Thursday, July 28, I wore this very fun 1950's red, white & blue dress that I got at Dorothea's Closet Vintage several years ago, & a fun 1940's tile purse I found on Ooh La La Vintage last year.

I love the buttons on this dress, especially the ones on the arms just down from the shoulder that stick out when you have the dress on!

With my fun outfit, I wore 2 pieces of jewelry I've made.

I made this necklace out of half-circles I cut out of vintage lithograph tin from an old doll house, plus wooden half-circles & beads from a broken vintage bracelet I found at an antique shop in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

I really love the patterns on the old lithograph tin.  I think these pieces came from the doll house's kitchen.

I also wore a pair of earrings I made recently out of vintage bakelite game pieces I found at an antique shop here in Des Moines, & little silvertone metal "4-leaf clover" pieces from a broken vintage necklace.

I like the way the discs in the earrings echo the buttons on the dress.

What I Wore on Saturday, July 23, 2018

by mary July 25, 2016

On Saturday, July 23, I wore this amazing flowered print dress from the 1930s.   I especially love the caplet sleeves & the ruching along the shoulders.  The original belt was no longer with the dress, so I used a 1980s belt I got at Dorothea's Closet Vintage that matched the colors of the flowers!

I found this dress at a garage sale that we just happened to check out while we were out for a morning walk with Belle, our beagle.  It had belonged to the woman's great aunt.

With my outfit, I wore 2 pieces of jewelry I've made.

I made this necklace using a vintage watch part, an old Cracker Jack/gumball compass charm, & watch fob chain.

I thought it was so cool how well the little compass fit into the watch part where I presume a gear might have been originally!  I liked too how the orangish red of the compass worked with the colors of the flowers on the dress.

I also wore a pair of earrings I made out of vintage amber crystal beads from a broken necklace I found at a flea market & wire.  One of the things I really like about these earrings is that they are really light, even though they have some nice length to them.

What I Wore on Thursday, July 21

by mary July 22, 2016

On Thursday, July 21, I wore this fun 1960s sheath dress that I got at Dorothea's Closet Vintage a couple of years ago.

I love the colors of the dress & it's super comfortable for the hot weather we are having -- 90+ degrees with heat indexes over 100 degrees!  I got the hat several summers ago in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin; it's not vintage, but I thought the colors fo the straw flowers really worked with the flowers on the dress!

With my dress, I wore a necklace I made last fall, using a vintage hotel key fob, vintage rosary beads, & a small vintage key that I wire-wrapped.  I found the key fob at a vintage clothing store last summer in Boise, Idaho.

The key fob feels like it's made of leather.  They sure don't make hotel keys like that anymore!

I also wore a pair of earrings I made out of old catalin game chips that I got at a garage sale last summer.

I really like the color & texture of these old catalin chips.  I also used links from a vintage chain for these earrings.

What I Wore on Thursday, July 14, 2016

by mary July 14, 2016

I see that I haven't posted anything for almost a month.  It's been an off summer for us, as our little beagle, Belle, has been down at the Veterinary Health Services at the University of Missouri-Columbia getting radiation treatment for a tumor on her left front paw.  She's been there since June 20, & will be there a few more days to finish her treatment.  In the interim, we've been visiting her weekends when we can & missing her terribly.  We also talk to the Health Center & to the student she is staying with to hear how she is doing.  That's pretty much dominated our attention.

Today, though, I volunteered at Calvin Community's birthday party for residents with birthdays in July, & wore one of my summer vintage outfits, so I thought I would do a "What I Wore On . . . " blog post.  So here goes . . .

On Thursday, July 14, I wore this really fun 1960s black & white gingham drop-waist dress that I found at an antique mall in Boise, Idaho last summer.

I also got the 60s daisy pin at the same antique mall, but different booth.  I love this dress, & remember wearing drop-waist dresses like these back in the 60s!  My hat & purse are also from the 60s & come from Dorothea's Closet Vintage.

With my outfit, I wore 2 pieces of jewelry I've made.  I made the charm bracelet out of small vintage white dice, & added a Cracker Jack/gumball good luck charm & black beads to match the dots in the dice.

I made this asymmetrical pair of earrings with the same size white dice & black bead for one earring, & a black dice & white bead for the other.

I really like vintage dice, & thought the colors & shapes were a good complement for my 60s dress.
