Treasrue Hunting In Boise, Idaho

by mary August 30, 2015

A week or so ago, I spent 4 1/2 days in Boise, Idaho with my mother-in-law (MIL) visiting her 90-year old sister & niece.  While there, we did some power-shopping, including checking out an antique mall & a vintage clothing store.

I picked up a fun 60's drop-waist dress & 3 tops from the 40s & 50s, plus these fun pieces for jewelry-making -- including an old hotel key fob, 2 cow tags (the numbers 6 & 181), & several broken bakelite pieces.

So far, I've made a necklace from the hotel key fob & an old key I had . . .

and another necklace out of one of the cow tags & some bakelite game chips I'd found awhile ago at an antique mall here in Des Moines . . .

and I've got a design going for the green bakelite piece on the right!

I also picked up some vintage jewelry from a friend of my MIL, who was cleaning out the estate of a family member . . .

Yesterday, I made a necklace from the hand-painted glass cameo in the upper right (it's "c-clasp" was broken). I wire-wrapped the cameo with copper & sterling silver, & added vintage chain, chalcedony & amethyst beads.

I'm really intrigued by the paper-clip pin in the lower right & eager to try designing something out of it as well.

To see more of my jewelry, check out my website at  And, as always, thanks for reading & for supporting small businesses.

Pauline's Jewelry Box was founded by Mary Nelson in 2012 in Des Moines, Iowa.  I chose the name Pauline's Jewelry Box because my mother's name was Pauline & I have many fond memories of looking through jewelry box & playing with her jewelry
