Treasure Hunting at the Fairgrounds Flea Market - September 5, 2015

by mary September 5, 2015

Finally, the monthly flea market at the Fairgrounds is back!  (They don't have one in July because of the Good Guys car show & in August because of the State Fair, although it seems like even longer since we were able to go to one!)

Although quite a few of the dealers we like to check out weren't there this month, I did find a few fun treasures, including these little celluloid charms . . .

I'd never even seen the skeleton or the bat charms before!  For some strange reason, I only bought the skeleton & one of the bats at first -- then, when we got home, I regretted not getting the other bat & the cat.  Steve was really sweet & went back to the market after lunch & picked up 2 bats (I hadn't seen one of them) & the cat!  After he got back, I made this fun Halloween charm necklace, with 3 of the charms, a couple of bone beads & vintage chain!

I also picked up this cute prayer box charm.

I've only found one of these before -- at a garage sale.

And I found this really cool "traveling needle case" that was made in Occupied Japan . . .

I bought it for the graphics -- thought it would make a great background for photographing jewelry -- especially pieces with a travel or "souvenir" theme!

And, finally, I picked up a box of vintage hats -- including a cloche from the 1920's -- from a dealer who is a dear friend who had set them aside for me!

So, while some of our favorite dealers weren't at the market, it turned out to be a good day for treasure hunting for me!

As always, thanks for reading & for supporting small businesses!  And, to see more of my jewelry, check out my website at http://paulinesjewelrybox.com.
